We had just stopped at McDonald’s and I was giving them a speech about how we won’t be going out to eat very much because we need to save money. Then after about 30 seconds of quiet driving, my youngest says:

“Dad, when I get older I’ll get a job, okay?”

I laughed so hard. Love it. She’s adorable.

Tonight was special. And it was made special by just a simple sentence made by my daughter. Before I get to that I need to preface her quote.

This week has been pretty difficult. We’ve had a lot to do and think about. We’ll be moving to Atlanta for a new job (for me) and we’ve been getting the house ready to sell, and planning all of our moving issues. Not to mention wrapping things up at our current jobs and trying to coordinate our lives altogether.

So tonight, out of the blue, my daughter says to my wife, “I’m so glad you’re quitting your job, then you can be with us.” Such a simple phrase, yet true blue. This new job situation gives our children what they really want and deserve: their mom.

Right after she said it my wife and I looked straight at each other and couldn’t help but smile.

Well, my sister has done it again. Challenging all of us to go a little farther, be more introspective while at the same time be more conscious of our surroundings. I am struck by here intelligence and understanding of this life.

Anyhow, her challenge was to assign yourself a word during the year. So, here is my stab at it:

Finish

I’ve always had problems with starting things and then leaving them unfinished. My recent adventures include websites, business plans, graduate school, yard projects, house cleaning, shaving (I hate shaving), doing homework with my daughter, etc. I have just left things in the middle. Sometimes maybe I feel like I never have time for everything, so I just don’t finish anything. It makes me think of “finishing” a shot in soccer, which means to score. Or to “finish” a table, making it shimmer and shine. I want the feeling that comes with completing and setting aside a project. So, this year, 2007, I want to finish.

Well, Heather, I hope this post suffices as a post on my blog for the time being.

I am here at work and don’t have a lot of time, but I thought I would talk about what I do here. Right now I am working on redesigning one of our websites. I’m using PHP and MySQL, with a touch of JavaScript and AJAX to keep things interesting. Mostly I am using the Prototype.js JavaScript library to handle my AJAX calls.

Anyhow, it is going okay and I have a lot done. But I still have a lot to do. I won’t be done for another couple of months!

I’m also looking forward to the Christmas break. I am off of work for 4 work days and two weekend days. It’ll be fun to see Ryan and Tiana.

Well, I should get back to work. I’ll post more later … maybe. ;-)

Sean

I’m glad my sister has started to write about her feelings, because it helps me better understand what everyone else is going through. Her sincerity is refreshing and I’m glad I can see her thoughts in her new blog.

As far as remembering what it was like before and after September 11, 2001, I think they are distinct in my life, but I think it also has been a real maturing process for me. I’ve had to grow up in my mental and emotional life, and begin to truly lift the heavy burdens of life. Before I was just attempting to put the weights on the dumbell. Now, I’m trying to lift the dumbell.

I can say there are three distinct moments that stick out in my mind as the most difficult for me, and September 11, 2001, is one of them.
